Yasothon and Thailand rocket festival


Yasothon Province

Yasothon Province is one of Thailand province located in the North-East of Thailand. Yasothon is famous for its Rocket Festival in May every year. Traditional local dance called "Peun Muang" join the parade at the annual rocket festival. The Thailand festival and parade takes place on Yasothon's main street.

The festival is held during every second weekend of May at Phaya Taen Park, with the initial objective to bolster harmony in each team. Yasothon people believe that the festival will please gods which create proper rain and prosperous food. Rockets joining the festival will be decorated beautifully with Thai traditional patterns. Rockets are judged by a committee and the respective winners take home with attractive prizes of competition.



Interesting in Yasothon Province


Maha That Temple - The Buddhist temple with Lao-style chedi located in Yasothon town. It's over 1,200 years old. It enshrines holy relics of Phra Ananda, Phra Kaeo Yod Nam Kang statue in attitude of meditation in Chiang Saen Art style.

Phaya Tan Park - The Park is the location for significant fairs and festivals of the province.

Phra That Kong Khao Noi - Has legend about Phra That Kong Khao Noi says "Young farmer has been working since dawn. At lunch, his mother came late with his lunch. He's hunger and sudden anger to see a little amount of rice after that he kills his mother. So, young farmer built this stupa, wishing for forgiveness and amend.
